Usain Bolt was born on 21 August 1986 in Sherwood Content, a small town in Trelawny, Jamaica. His parents ran the local grocery store in the rural area, and Bolt spent his time playing cricket and football in the street with his brother, later saying, "When I was young, I didn’t really think about anything other than sports".

Upon his entry to William Knibb Memorial High School, Bolt continued to focus on other sports, but his cricket coach noticed Usain Bolt's speed on the pitch and urged him to try track and field events. Pablo McNeil, a former Olympic sprint athlete, and Dwayne Barrett coached Usain Bolt, encouraging him to focus his energy on improving his athletic abilities. The school had a history of success in athletics with past students, including sprinter Michael Green.

Usain Bolt won a 200 m gold medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships, making him the competition's youngest-ever gold medalist at the time (since surpassed by Jacko Gill). In 2004, at the CARIFTA Games, he became the first junior sprinter to run the 200 m in less than 20 seconds with a time of 19.93 s, breaking the previous world junior record held by Roy Martin by two-tenths of a second.

As an Athlete, Usain Bolt clearly has made more than any other can, we guess we could even say no sports lover who doesn't know who Usain Bolt is.. You see that is how popular Usain Bolt is. People who doesn't know his full name; Usain Bolt should still know his last name, Bolt, because of the relation to speed as in bolt = lightning = fast thing = speed = running = track and field, it is all related to each other, that's why it is easy to memorize, remember now that Usain Bolt Is The Fastest Man In The World And That is His Story ^_^
US target shooter Kimberly Rhode won the gold medal in skeet shooting yesterday. She has now won a medal in five straight Olympiad:

1996: Gold -- Double trap
2000: Bronze -- Double trap
2004: Gold -- Double trap
2008: Silver -- Skeet
2012: Gold -- Skeet

Both skeet (description, video) and trap (description, video) shooting involve targets that are launched into the air. According to this AP article, Rhode has now become "the first American with individual medals in five straight Olympics." Further, she was a model of near perfection yesterday, "tying a world record and setting the Olympic mark with 99 points — meaning she missed once in 100 shots."

Tim Tebow Heckled By Own Fans, Looks Bad At Camp

Tim Tebow can't escape being criticized, even by his own team's fans watching training camp. If you have ever watched the NFL Draft, I guess hearing a few boos from New York Jets fans shouldn't be surprising.

Tebow is the most polarizing player in the NFL and everyone has an opinion if he can be effective as the starting quarterback for the Jets. He had a bad practice today and he didn't change anyone's mind positively. He paraded around without his shirt at the end of practice, hopefully to distract everyone from his play...it didn't work.

He wasn't the only quarterback to look bad. Mark Sanchez had his own blunders in the poor weather. Interceptions and fumbles could be the overall theme in the Jets training camp this year.

Tim Tebow's honeymoon period with the New York media appears to be over. Is the Jets' blind optimism about their quarterbacks warranted?

Tebow took 12 snaps with the second team today. He went 3 for 8 and took a 'sack' after running around the field trying to avoid defenders. The hecklers started to let him have it during that play. His own fans were yelling, "Throw the ball" and "This is why you're number two!" There is a group of Jets' fans who believe Sanchez is their future and have disliked Tebow from Day 1. Sanchez did lead them to back-to-back AFC Championship appearances, but smart fans could say that he benefited from a staunch defense.

Tebow and Sanchez are in a quarterback competition manufactured by the media. You haven't heard anything from head coach Rex Ryan about a competition. Conjecture can make a mess of an already bad situation.

Tony Sparano is the Jets new offensive coordinator. He is best known for implementing the Wildcat offense when he was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Jets linebacker Bart Scott believes the Jets will have an advantage with Tebow in a similar package. It is a risky gamble, since teams figured out the Wildcat by the next season after it began.

The Jets have the most pressure of any team in the NFL...and they didn't even make the playoffs a year ago. The Giants won the Super Bowl last season and coach Ryan could be on the hot seat if the team starts the season poorly. They will find it difficult to share a stadium with the world champions.

If the quarterbacks' poor play becomes the norm, expect Tebow AND Sanchez to use the 'shirtless' distraction on a daily basis.

U.S. Swimmer Dana Vollmer Sets World Record

The United States added to their medal count today and did it with swagger.

U.S. Swimmer Dana Vollmer set a new world record in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2012 Olympics in London. She didn't even qualify for the event in 2008 for the games in Beijing.

Her time was 55.98 seconds, beating the 56.06 time set by Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom during the 2009 World Championships. Sjostrom competed in this year's event, but did not medal.

Lu Ying of China won the silver medal and Alicia Coutts of Australia took home the bronze.

2012 NFL Team Preview: Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens were one scoreboard operator error away from making the Super Bowl last season. If you think they have a chip on their shoulder this season, that is an understatement.

Baltimore is a favorite to win the AFC, but out of all the contenders, they are getting the least amount of media attention. Their biggest news this off-season was Ray Rice signing a new contract.

They do have a few injury issues that will hurt them this season. Terrell Suggs is due to miss most of the season because of an Achilles injury. Can they pressure the quarterback enough for their defense to be effective?

It's a 'put up or shut up' year for Joe Flacco. Is this the year he surpasses 4,000 passing yards and 30 touchdowns?

Here's our 2012 NFL team preview for the Baltimore Ravens.

2011 Win/Loss Record: 12-4

Key Additions: WR Jacoby Jones, OG Bobbie Williams, QB Curtis Painter, DE Courtney Upshaw, WR Tommy Streeter, S Sean Considine, CB Corey Graham, DT Ryan McBean, OG Tony Wragge, OG Kelechi Osemele and RB Bernard Pierce.

Key Losses: WR Derrick Mason, CB Dominique Foxworth, S Tom Zbikowski, DT Cory Redding, DT Brandon McKinney, S Haruki Nakamura, LB Jarret Johnson, OG Ben Grubbs and LB Jameel McClain.

Non-Divison Schedule: AFC West and NFC East

Fantasy SleeperWR Tommy Streeter - After after the NFL Draft, I had Jacoby Jones listed as the Ravens' fantasy sleeper as Jacoby Jones. Well, the Ravens have been vocal about their fear of Jones' hands and his past fumbling issues. Streeter's mentor is Ray Lewis and writers have taken notice of his abilities. He's 6'5 and ran a 4.40 40-time, so he has the skills to be a deep threat. They currently have Torrey Smith in that role, but Streeter is a nice hand-cuff in a deep league.

Team Analysis: You look at who the Ravens added and who they've lost, they seem to have improved their team by making it younger. Smith, Streeter, and Jones will fill-in for the retired Mason, even though Flacco still needs a dependable possession receiver. Boldin will play that role, but will often be the target of double coverage. Ray Rice is due to have another amazing fantasy and real-life season. They will have to rely on Pernell McPhee and rookie Upshaw to replace Suggs for most of the season. That could be a problem, but their defense is good enough that Haloti Ngata and Lewis will help with the pass rush. I am really, really looking for Week 3, when they play the New England Patriots at home...that will be an amazing game!

2012 NFL Team Preview: Atlanta Falcons

After mortgaging their entire 2011 draft to acquire Julio Jones, Atlanta went 10-6. They lost to the eventual Super Bowl winner, New York Giants, and looked bad doing it. You never want a '2' next to your name, unless the final score is 2-0.

In 2011, Atlanta won the games they were supposed to win and lost the games they were supposed to lose. They were a bit vanilla and didn't have too many memorable moments that I can recall.

Can Michael Turner rebound from a horrible second-half in 2011? Does a new offensive coordinator translate into better passing numbers for Matt Ryan?

Here's our 2012 NFL team preview for the Atlanta Falcons.

(Yes, that is Playboy's Jamie Edmondson in an Atlanta Falcons shirt...expect a lot more of her in our NFL team preview posts.)

2011 Win/Loss Record: 10-6

Key Additions: CB Asante Samuel, LB Mike Peterson, C Peter Konz, OT Lamar Holmes, Bradie Ewing and Jonathan Massaquoi.

Key Losses: CB Kelvin Hayden, WR Eric Weems, S James Sanders and LB Curtis Lofton.

Non-Divison Schedule: AFC West and NFC East

Fantasy SleeperWR Harry Douglas - I did think Jason Snelling would be the best fantasy sleeper on the Falcons, but Harry Douglas is a better deep sleeper. The new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is rumored to be implementing a pass-happy offense. Matt Ryan looks good early in camp and is said to already have a good feel for the new offense. Julio Jones, Roddy White, and Tony Gonzalez can't catch all the balls and if Douglas can stay healthy, he'll get some targets.

Team Analysis: Ryan will be better under the new offensive coordinator. They won't have to rely on Michael Turner as much, which is a bonus for the team. His heavy workload seems to be taking a toll on him and Snelling could find more carries by the end of the season. Asante Samuel will help them a lot in the secondary. They were 20th in opposing passing yards and facing the NFC South is difficult a difficult task. They catch a break in the scheduling by playing four games against the AFC West, but then face the upgraded NFC East. They will have a better season in 2012, especially since Ryan will have a full training camp with Jones and the rest of his wide receivers.

2012 Wins Over/Under Line: 9 (Prediction: OVER)

2012 Projected Win/Loss Record: 11-5

Is There a Hot Hand in Olympic Archery?

Many Olympic sports got underway today in London and environs. One event that I watched today and that potentially is an excellent candidate for hot-hand analysis is archery. As I discuss in my book and in this video, sports that are most conducive to streakiness are those that consist of relatively simple motions that can be repeated with little delay between attempts.

The event I watched today, specifically, was the men's team archery final, between Italy and the United States. Each team has three shooters or archers. When it's a team's turn, each member will get one shot, so that several minutes will elapse between consecutive shots by any one person. This aspect is not optimal for detecting streakiness. Also, each member gets only eight attempts. Thus, even when aggregating over all six participants, the total number of shots is too small for traditional statistical analysis.

Still, for curiosity's sake, I thought I'd examine the arrow-shooting sequences. Archers receive 10 points for their team by hitting the bullseye, and 9, 8, 7, etc., for landing their arrow in each respective outward ring from the center. As I depict in the following chart, no archer earned below an 8 on any shots. Archery matches (in the team format, at least) are organized into four sets (known as "ends") of six shots each. Because each archer on a three-person team shoots twice in one end, I designate the shots as "1a" for first shot of the first end, "1b" for second shot of the first end, and so forth.

I decided to simplify my little analysis by dividing outcomes into two categories: 10's (bullseyes) and non-10's (i.e., 8 or 9). The "hot hand" concept, in the sense of "success begetting success," suggests that when an archer shoots a bullseye (10-pointer), he or she should have a higher probability than usual of hitting a bullseye on his or her next shot, as well.

Highlighted in gold in the above chart are all attempts that immediately followed a 10. For example, USA Shooter A earned a 10 on his 3a shot, so his next cell (for 3b) is highlighted in gold. Shot 3b was also a 10, so 4a is gold. Unshaded white cells represent attempts immediately following a non-10. Each shooter's first attempt (green cells) is excluded from the analysis, because he had no prior attempts at that point.

As described above, the hot hand hypothesis predicts that 10's will be more common (percentagewise) in the gold cells than in the white cells. As shown at the bottom of the chart, this pattern is exactly what was found: Bullseyes occurred on 46% of the arrows fired after the same archer had hit a bullseye on his previous shot. In contrast, bullseyes occurred on only 28% of the arrows fired after the same archer had scored an 8 or 9 on his previous shot.

Given the small sample, the difference between 46% and 28% was not statistically significant, but it was in the direction predicted by hot-hand reasoning. Considering that the archers faced delays of several minutes between their own shots, this result isn't bad!

I will keep my eye out for additional archery events during these games (men's individual, women's team and individual) and I invite readers to do the same. Statistics for all sports are available at NBCOlympics.com. For the men's team archery final, all the shot-by-shot data were available online (albeit organized in a different format than I used), so I was able to verify the scores I wrote down while watching the event against what was listed on the website. However, as a precaution, I would urge readers interested in conducting their own analyses to write down as much data as they can while watching events on television.

Sports Crush (Olympics Edition): Jen Kessy & April Ross

We already know who Missy May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings are, but U.S. Women's Beach Volleyball has two new members that everyone should know. Jennifer Kessy and April Ross will be household names by the end of the 2012 Olympics.

The duo barely missed making the 2008 Olympics, but went on to win the 2009 World Championships.

Beach volleyball fans already know them and they are expected to do very well in the 2012 Olympics. I hope they win a medal, because ABC needs new women athletes to invite to participate in 'Dancing with the Stars'.

After the Olympics, they could have hyphens after their names real soon, just like May and Walsh...Jen Kessy-Roberts sounds nice.

Here is a photo gallery of the Kessy/Ross beach volleyball duo.

London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony All You Need To See Is Here

London 2012 olympics opening ceremony is here, finally, after the announcement that was held in 2005, London was picked as the city to host the 2012 olympics with pride. Of course soon after they was thinking about the london 2012 olympics opening ceremony, how they should do it, because it is their third time this time around, and for that they are the first city ever to be able to held the biggest and most grandest sports event on this planet, the olympics.
So it was Oscar winner Danny Boyle who was soon being picked to direct and take control of the London 2012 olympics opening ceremony, it was his idea indeed to be incorporated both Queen Elizabeth II, as well as actor Rowan Atkinson aka television’s Mr. Bean. And there wasn’t a whole lot else in the British canon that Boyle left out, either, in front of a crowd of 80,000 and an international television audience of an estimated 4 billion.

The greatest mystery was of who would light the Olympic cauldron. Sir Steven Redgrave was a leading candidate, as was Roger Bannister, the first man to run a mile under four minutes. In a twist, Redgrave, a five-time rowing gold medalist, carried the torch into the stadium, but passed it off to seven young athletes, who represented the future of Britain. They each lit a copper rose petal at the center of the stadium, which grew to a circle made up of petals representing each country. Those, then, lifted up to form one giant flame.

It was certainly a "go big" production, which it almost needed to be after the dazzling ceremony in Beijing at the 2008 Olympics. So in this London 2012 olympics opening ceremony they came out with The Olympic bell, which was rung by recent Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins, was made by the same foundry responsible for the Liberty Bell and Big Ben and will reside in the park for 200 years before it is returned to the foundry for a tune-up.

By the time the Parade of Nations began at 10:20 p.m. local time, observers had already watched Olympic rings be carried into space by balloons, a pastoral farm scene deconstructed into a Dickensian industrial wasteland, a screen of pixels in the audience portraying the Union Jack as the British flag was hoisted as well as children doing flips on trampolines disguised as hospital beds. That bit in this London 2012 olympics opening ceremony could still honored the National Health Service and a popular children’s hospital.

As Bean, aided the effort by playing one note on the keyboard, he slipped into a coma of boredom. He thumbed an iPhone, blew his nose and, fittingly, ended the number with a flatulent noise, the brits sure loved him in this London 2012 olympics opening ceremony, clearly because of his away time from the television for a while.

But the real unanswered question in this London 2012 olympics opening ceremony is "What must the Queen have been thinking?" Not during Mr. Bean’s emission, but during the rock and roll party that featured music from The Doors, Queen and a live performance from the Arctic Monkeys?

Before the performance began, Boyle reminded the crowd that the performance was a "warm-up act for the athletes."
